Noted 26/05/2022 at Stuttgart, dark blue c/s and large "AWRH"-titels. note: This BK117 had its first flight in April 1989. Since then, the airframe has served Airbus as a testbed for research and basic development. From 1989 to 2006 pioneering aviation technologies were tested on airframe c/n 7045. The rotary wing aircraft, for example, was given an outer shell made of fiber composite material, with which lightweight construction technologies were researched. In order to be able to recognize changes in the structure, the helicopter cell was only painted with clear varnish on the outside for the first few years. From around 1997 the helicopter was used in the aviation research program, which is why the helicopter was painted blue and given the colorful letters AWRH. In addition, systems were tested that relieve the pilot by recognizing and avoiding obstacles. The optimization steps created space for the pilot, through which he can better concentrate on his flight task. The pioneering technologies that have been tested on it help make helicopter EMS-operations faster and safer. In the last years of being in service, so-called active rotors were examined and tested in flight. The characteristic movements of the rotor blades were individually influenced by means of control and optimization processes, thus significantly reducing vibrations and noise. On 07/02/2020 Airbus handed over the retired airframe to Stuttgart university for permanently use. prsv: Preserved at Stuttgart/Technische Universität Stuttgart - Institut für Flugmechanik und Flugregelung, 07/02/2020.

Noted 27/07/2020, 04/10/2019 and 01/10/2015 at Ta'Qali, Malta. note: Dumped outside a hangar at Malta Aviation Museum, separated tailboom marked with false registration 'D-HAQU' on fin, the destroyed cell itself is shown unmarked in sandy c/s. The cells have their tailbooms swapped, UH-1H c/n 5232 actually carries the tailboom of UH-1H c/n 5179. note: 'D-HAQU(a)' is suspected to have had its tailboom swapped twice. When looking close to fin, the dark green paint on the vertical fin is coming off, revealing Bolivian colours (red/yellow/green), with the black letters "PNC-181" appearing to be on top of the red/yellow/green colours, which means that the helicopter already had the Bolivian-style fin prior to becoming "PNC-181". As "PNC-181" was delivered by late 1998 and that same year the US reduced the anti-narcotics fleet they had loaned to Bolivia by six Hueys, it is believed as they were overhauling "PNC-181" for delivery to Colombia it acquired a former Bolivian tail boom, a "dodgy"-boom. note: The cells were used in film shoots at Malta (historical action thriller "Munich" produced and directed 2005 by Steven Spielberg, co-written by Tony Kushner and Eric Roth, and 2013-produced US-American apocalyptic action horror film "World War Z" directed by Marc Forster) and then donated to the Malta Aviation Museum Foundation, Ta'Qali, Malta.
